CARBONDALE -- The executive director of the fraternity involved in the presumed drowning of a Southern Illinois University Carbondale student said Tuesday that alcohol may have been involved in the tragedy.
Brent E. Johnson, 19, of Seymour was one of 12 Pi Kappa Alpha pledges and three fraternity members who went on a weekend camping trip to the Cove Hollow area of Cedar Lake. Johnson is believed to have drowned when the canoe he was in capsized a little after 4 a.m. Sunday. Another pledge in the canoe made it to shore safely.
