Sorority seeking entrants for talent show

BENTON HARBOR -- The Benton Harbor-St. Joseph Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority is looking for talented people age 25 and older.
It plans to hold a 25 and Over Talent Review at 7 p.m. Jan. 10 at Benton Harbor High School. Area adults will compete for hundreds of dollars in prizes that Saturday night.
Tickets, which will be sold at the door, are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
The winner of the professional category will take home $400. The first prize for the amateur category is $300, and the second prize is $100.
"There are Twin Cities-area residents who have recorded music CDs," said event chairwoman Karen Banks. "We wanted to make this competition available to them, as well as to the person who sings in the shower or dances in the privacy of his or her home."
To participate, call the chapter office at 925-7960 or pick up an application from the Book House Cafe and Gifts in Benton Harbor. Contestants also can attend the dress rehearsal at 6 p.m. Jan. 7 at Benton Harbor High School. There is a $10 application fee.
The local Delta Sigma Theta chapter has participated in various community activities including Harbor Habitat for Humanity, political forums and AIDS education. It also has sponsored scholarships and mentoring programs for young women.
